Jorge G. Aristotelidis joins Del Prado Law as counsel on appeals and post-conviction challenges.

Jorge has been practicing for over 23 years, and is one of a very select group of lawyers in Texas who is Board Certified in both Criminal and Criminal Appellate law. He was a former Assistant Federal Public Defender, and has handled numerous appeals in both state and federal courts, often presenting oral arguments before appellate panels.

After almost four years on appeal, on April 5, 2010, Jorge obtained a victory in the United States Supreme Court, the first reversal, five days after the Court published Padilla v. Kentucky, which for the first established an obligation on all criminal defense counsel to advise their non-citizen clients of the immigration consequences of a criminal conviction. As a native Spanish speaker from the Texas-Mexico border, Jorge is an acknowledged pioneer and authority in the field of “crimmigration,” which involves the careful balancing of criminal defense and immigration law, to ensure a fair resolution of criminal charges, while minimizing the probabilities of a non-citizen client’s deportation.

He has obtained reversals in state and federal appellate courts, and numerous victories through habeas challenges, including the reversal of a conviction for a mentally incompetent young man, and an actual innocence finding for a man convicted decades ago of indecency with a child.

Recognition by his peers has earned him the position as past-president of the San Antonio Criminal Defense Lawyers Association (SACDLA), a current role as director with the Texas Criminal Defense Lawyers Association (TCDLA), and a member of the State Bar of Texas Committee on Criminal Jury Charges, which meets about four times a year to draft jury instructions for a large number of criminal statutes. Having obtained trial victories in State and Federal cases, Jorge has cross-over experience which enables him a special ability, over other appellate lawyers, to recognize and argue issues on appeal.
